What a valuable and joyful Lent and Easter we had this year! From the first moment of our Lenten Small Group studies, to the last note of “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” sung by a packed church this past Sunday, our observance was simply wonderful.
As I have said many times before, ours is a church run by its members. When the Hills Church works hard to successfully realize our sense that God is calling us to be a warm, faithful, open-minded and joyful church, the success is yours. You have followed God’s prompting and you are helping your congregation become a truly remarkable place.
Over the past six weeks I’ve been privileged to see the members of our church roll up their sleeves and get to work on all kinds of projects. You planned an absolutely delightful egg hunt for more than 400 friends and neighbors, many of whom had never experienced the Hills Church before. You spent hours and hours rehearsing some of the most beautiful music to ever grace our sanctuary. You practiced the readings for worship and read them with a truly inspiring depth of emotion. You cooked delicious food for the hungry in Wellesley and Boston, and climbed ladders to drape the cross and change lightbulbs. You distributed hundreds of worship invitations and brought new friends to church on your arm. You carried the elements of communion through the sanctuary and steered worshipers to an open seat in the pews. You carefully considered the Lord’s Prayer in stirring small group conversations. You taught our children the resurrection story. You decorated the sanctuary beautifully. You sang and prayed with gusto. And, on Easter Sunday, you welcomed nearly 1,000 church members, guests, and first-time worshipers to the joy of resurrection and the beauty of our Hills Church traditions. Congratulations on a job well done and thank you for your faithful service. The Hills Church would not be the great place it is without you.
Along with Pash, Jim, and Bonnie, I remain very proud to be your minister!
